Five years ago, this CAT 797 front suspension rod was at its end of life. Today, it is going back in service for yet another turn. This is one story of the thousands of struts remanufactured at HTCP with lifespans extended well beyond OEM expectations.
Problem
This 797 front suspension rod came to us in January 2020 at the end of its useful life. The HVOF coating was too thick to re-coat and replacement was the only option.
Solution
We performed our proprietary remanufacturing process to restore the base material. We also transitioned the coating from HVOF to Hard Chrome, a more ductile option which provides more forgiveness under flexion.
The Proof
Component tracing helped us identify this rod 5 years later in March of 2025. The restored base material was damage-free, as expected. It only needed a standard re-chrome. After this turn, the base material was only -.012” undersize, meaning the rod has many years of life ahead. This is our expectation for reman processes.
The Impact
- Proven field performance, backed by component tracing data
- Longer service life = fewer replacements
- Lower costs = higher ROI
